Headquarters Relocation Update

We’re relocating to Trenton’s historic Roebling Wireworks Carpentry Shop! In preparation for our May 2022 move-in date, the construction and design teams have been busy!

The building is an old industrial wireworks factory that is being revitalized into a new office space, under a historic preservation permit. The design highlights the space’s historic architectural elements – heavy timber beams, huge windows and skylights, and original brick walls – while incorporating state-of-the-art design and sustainability.

In every aspect of the design, construction and planning, the team is making an active effort to source local and renewable resources, including:

• during construction, recycling all scrap material and materials removed from the building;
• using Roxul Insulation to reduce reliance on fiberglass and improve installation safety;
• installing a VRF system for HVAC, and as part of the HVAC, using an energy recovery ventilation unit that tempers the air being used for heating and cooling;
• installing LED lighting and making good use of the space’s natural light;
• using recycled windows for the first floor and installing Low-E insulated windows for the second floor;
• installing low-flow fixtures and, in the bathrooms, using hydro-wheel technology fixtures;
• purchasing artwork from local artists;
• sourcing new office furnishings from green vendors and repurposing old furnishings; and
• for the outside of the building, installing a reflective TPO roof to reduce the urban heat island effect.

Additionally, the new office space is located next to the light rail and within a few blocks of the Trenton Transit Center to encourage employees to commute by train.

“It is the perfect mix of character, history, and location, and it fulfills our desire to be a part of the revitalization of the City of Trenton,” said Princeton Hydro President Geoff Goll. 

The office is being constructed by Trenton-based Hx2 Development and designed by Trenton-based Architecture and Planning firm, Clarke Caton Hintz with support and encouragement from the City of Trenton and Greater Trenton, the local organization dedicated to advancing revitalization efforts in the City.
